Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I take a Philadelphia Music Tour?
Philadelphia Music Tours offers architectural and historical walking tours of Philadelphia that place an illuminating light on Philadelphia’s resilient history and contributions to culture at large. If you have ever driven around Philadelphia, even passively, you get the sense that to really see it, you need to get out and walk around.
The mission of Philadelphia Music Tours is to constructively educate the public about Philadelphia’s extraordinary musical legacy and architecture. Each tour is created, and screened for accuracy, using as many digital and physical resources as possible, months of research and development, and quality controlled by locals with specialized, in-depth knowledge.
If you're looking for something more than just saying you were there, consider spending an hour or two with Philadelphia Music Tours.
How much do your tours cost? Do you offer discounts?
We charge a flat rate, with the exception of children under 6. However, we do offer frequent discounts via our landing page or via promotional cards or pamphlets (10-30% off, buy one get one free, etc.).
Can people with wheelchairs or strollers go on these walks?
Yes. However, pregnant women, elderly persons, and people who have medical concerns or trouble getting around should carefully consider their ability to travel these times and distances with a group. Additionally, some children under 3 may find the length of the walk challenging.
What happens if there is bad weather?
Our guides are trained and prepared to lead tours in inclement weather. However, if a major weather event is predicted, we may cancel tours in advance. If you have purchased tickets for a tour that is canceled, you will be notified and offered an exchange or refund. Please note that we do not offer refunds if your tour proceeds despite bad weather.
What is your refund policy?
If have purchased tickets for a tour that you are no longer able to attend, we will gladly exchange your ticket for another tour of equal or lesser value or offer a full refund if 24 hours in advance. Please call us Monday-Friday 8am-4pm, to make the exchange or email us at support@philadelphiamusictours.com. We cannot offer refunds or exchanges during non-business hours. Our tours begin promptly, so late admittance cannot be guaranteed. Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early and allow ample time to make your way to the starting location and find your guide. We can not offer refunds to latecomers, unfortunately.
How large are the tour groups?
Our tour groups are typically smaller and more intimate than commercial tours which leaves plenty of opportunity for interaction with your guide. The size depends on the day of the week, the time of year, and the weather conditions. The max is 10 people per tour.
What time does the tour start?
Tours start promptly at the times listed. Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes ahead of time to connect with your guide and buy or show your ticket. Late admittance cannot be guaranteed.
How will I find you?
Our guides will be waiting at the designated locations 15 minutes before the start of a tour. They will be wearing a blue Philadelphia Music Tours hat, grey shirt, and jeans. We do not have ticket booths, nor do our guides wear costumes.
How should I dress?
Comfortably! You'll be outdoors for a while so dress appropriately and note that weather in Philadelphia is not easy to predict. Temperatures can swing over ten degrees during a tour and the weather on one side of the town doesn't always indicate what's happening on the other side.
What should I bring?
If you have purchased tickets in advance, please bring your printed PDF ticket, or be prepared to show the ticket on your smart phone or tablet. If you did not purchase your tickets in advance, please reach out to see if a spot is available and arrive early. Wear appropriate clothing, including comfortable walking shoes.
What can I do after a tour?
We hope that you will continue your exploration of Philadelphia’s architecture and musical legacy. You can retrace your steps and visit the inside of the buildings featured on the tours. You can ask your guide for other fun and interesting things to do in the area as well to go along with your insiders list (a gift from us detailing all of our favorite places/establishments)!
